Sinclair Renovation

This renovation of a post-war split level in Calgary incorporates large amounts of natural light in combination with warm wood materials and brightly painted white gypsum walls to create timeless and lively living spaces for a growing young family. A generous kitchen island used as a living and cooking surface has a corresponding dropped ceiling incorporating a built-in range hood. The dropped ceiling is surrounded by a new fir ceiling with a clear stain to highlight the natural tone and grain of the wood. A built-up post is similarly clad in fir to connect the light hardwood floor with the wood ceiling plane above.

A large patio door and kitchen window opens to the backyard creating a combined kitchen/living/dining space that is flooded with diffuse natural light throughout the day.
